Situated within the heart of the Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, Huntingdonshire is a beautiful district that boasts thriving market towns and many attractive villages, each with its own identity. We are an innovative and forward-thinking local authority whose residents are at the heart of our decision-making.

At HDC we want to employ staff who embody our icare values (Inspiring, Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, Enterprising), all of which support our ultimate purpose of putting our customers first.

Job details
We are seeking a committed and organised Business Support Assistant to join our Operations Service. This customer-centric role is integral to ensuring our teams and services are well supported, helping us deliver efficient, responsive, and value-for-money services to our residents and stakeholders.

About the role
The Business Support Assistant provides essential administrative, clerical and financial support to the Operations Service, ensuring the smooth running of processes and effective support for both internal and external customers.

The post holder will assist Service Managers, Team Leaders and the Business Support Team in maintaining high standards of service and compliance with financial and customer procedures.

Key responsibilities include handling enquiries, producing reports, managing financial processes, maintaining data accuracy, and supporting the performance and development of the wider team.

About you
The successful candidate will be highly organised, motivated and able to work with minimum supervision within a fast-paced office environment.

Key qualities include excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), strong IT and administrative abilities, accuracy in handling data, and a supportive approach to both team and customer service.

Experience in financial administration, customer service and office systems is essential, along with a commitment to confidentiality, equality and continuous improvement.

High personal standards, attention to detail and a readiness to learn new systems and adapt to change will ensure you thrive in this rewarding role.

An offer of employment is conditional upon having the right to work in the UK. Huntingdonshire District Council does not hold a Sponsorship Licence and is unable to provide a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) or take over sponsorship for any role.

Apply
Does this sound like the opportunity for you? If so, we'd love to hear from you. You can apply by completing an application form.

The closing date is 9am on 26 September 2025 and interviews will be held the week commencing 6 October 2025.

However, this is a rolling campaign and we'll be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and will close the advert early should we receive suitable applications, so please don't delay in applying!

For many of our roles (and where it is possible) we are currently working remotely and anticipate in the future returning to a hybrid office model on a flexible basis. This will still include work from home and flexi-time opportunities in order to provide a good work life balance whilst still ensuring that teams benefit from in person interaction. Candidates should therefore be within commutable distance of our offices in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire or able to attend meetings as required if further afield.

Should you have any additional questions regarding submitting an application, please contact the Recruitment Team at recruitment@huntingdonshire.gov.uk.

Please note that the official closing date is as above, and will be the correct date. Some third-party websites may have different dates. Please refer to the HDC website for the official closing date to ensure you do not miss out on applying.
