The role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and well-qualified Rowing Coach to support the development of young rowers in a school with a long-established national reputation for the sport.

As a Rowing Coach, you will contribute to the continued success of our thriving Boat Club by delivering first-rate coaching to pupils across all year groups, helping them develop key skills and enhance their proficiency in the sport. Coaching takes place during scheduled sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with additional hours available at times, particularly during external fixtures such as regattas.

You will need a British Rowing coaching qualification and registration, as well as a Level 2 Rowing Coach qualification or a commitment to acquiring this as soon as possible. A full UK driving licence is essential, along with previous experience in both sculling and sweep oared boats. Above all, we are looking for someone who is well-organised, enthusiastic and committed to helping young athletes achieve their potential in the sport.

Rowing at St Edward's Oxford

Rowing at St Edward’s is central to school life, with approximately 150 boys and girls involved from J14 upwards. Our pupils compete at numerous heads and regattas throughout the year, including the Schools’ Head and the National Schools Regatta. In addition to our two main rowing terms, pre-season sessions run in the autumn, and dedicated training camps are held during the Christmas and Easter holidays.

Closing date: Wednesday 17th September 2025.

We reserve the right to conduct interviews and appoint for the role before the advertised closing date should a suitable candidate be found. Therefore, early applications are encouraged.

St Edward’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we aim to create and maintain a safe environment for our pupils, where they feel respected and supported. We expect all staff to share this commitment and to become familiar with our policies and procedures for child protection and security. All staff are required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.

St Edward’s School is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any kind based on age, race, sex, religion, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, or any other protected characteristic.
