Summary

The Sustainability and Resilience Institute (SRI) is delighted to announce the recruitment of a permanent Administrative Officer on a 0.8FTE basis. SRI is a Strategic Research Initiative at the University of Southampton and serves as a hub for interdisciplinary work, bringing people together to tackle complex sustainability and resilience challenges across the University and beyond.

We are seeking a proactive, highly organised Administrative Officer to join our friendly and supportive team, passionate about making a real difference through strategic, innovative, and collaborative work.

The role and about you

You will provide efficient day-to-day administrative support for the Institute and SRI’s Centre for Postgraduate Researchers (CPGR), working with colleagues, members and external partners. Your responsibilities will include organising meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, processing invoices and travel bookings, and supporting projects as directed.

In addition, you will contribute to SRI’s communications by maintaining the SharePoint site, compiling newsletters, updating web content, and supporting membership engagement through database management and funding processes. You will also assist with running events and workshops, act as a professional point of contact for staff, members and external partners, and provide confidential PA support to the Institute Director.

This is a varied and rewarding role, offering opportunities to contribute across the full spectrum of SRI activity, from research support to event delivery and communications.

To be successful in this role

You will have practical experience in a relevant administrative or operational role. You will be highly organised, able to manage competing priorities, and adapt effectively to changing circumstances.

Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to support colleagues and handle sensitive information with discretion. You will be proficient in Microsoft Office and online collaboration tools, and bring a collaborative, adaptable approach with the initiative to solve problems within established procedures.

What we can offer you

You will join a collaborative, ambitious, and supportive team, working in a friendly and inclusive environment. We offer opportunities for training and professional development, flexible working with scope to agree a pattern that suits you and the Institute (up to 0.8FTE), and a generous benefits package including annual leave, contributory pension, staff discounts, cycle-to-work schemes, and wellbeing support.
