About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant at West Somerset College, you’ll support students in the classroom and beyond helping them engage with learning, grow in confidence, and achieve their personal best. You’ll work closely with teaching staff, adapt resources for individual needs, and help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Support students in lessons and small groups to help them stay on track and build independence
• Adapt activities and materials to suit a range of learning needs, including those with SEND
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing across the school
• Prepare learning resources and assist with classroom admin
• Track student progress and feed into lesson planning and reviews
• Build strong, respectful relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
• Uphold safeguarding and wellbeing as a top priority at all times

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be:

• A positive team player with a genuine desire to support young people
• Calm, flexible and able to adapt to a busy school day
• Confident using ICT and engaging with a diverse range of pupils
• Committed to inclusion, equality and professional integrity
• To succeed in this role, you’ll need strong literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above), along with experience working with children or young people.
• You’ll be a confident communicator, a team player, and comfortable using ICT to support learning.

While a Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning is ideal, we welcome applicants who are willing to work towards this. Experience in a school setting, particularly supporting students with SEND, along with familiarity with the national curriculum, would be a real advantage.
