Crynodeb

Summary
This position will work with the Operations team to ensure the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of Cecil Sharp House, a grade two listed building. The Caretaker will be responsible for opening the building Monday to Friday and ensuring the building is fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities

Building Security and Safety

● To be a primary key holder, responsible for opening the building, typically from 7.30am and, on occasion, to close the building as instructed. The Caretaker is required to ensure that the building is opened and closed safely and securely using standard procedures.
● To be a named contact on out of hours call lists for fire, security and other monitoring systems. To organise emergency response or contractors as required, in coordination with Venue Operations Manager.
● To respond to any urgent safety or security risks noted on arrival or reported by staff.
● To ensure that the building is compliant with HSE legislation, disability access requirements and fire safety regulations when opening for the day.
● To ensure that the building is left in a safe and energy efficient state during extended closures, and conducting regular checks as required.


Maintenance and Cleaning

● To ensure standards of cleanliness and tidiness are maintained and monitored throughout the building and the grounds in conjunction with cleaning contractor and gardener.
● To carry out cleaning tasks outside of the contractor’s scope and relating to high level areas.
● To respond to any urgent maintenance issues noted on arrival or reported by staff.
● To maintain safe storage and recording of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) items, in conjunction with cleaning contractor.
● To carry out maintenance tasks such as painting, plastering and furniture repairs.
● To support the Venue Operations Manager with organisation of larger maintenance and repair tasks to be carried out by contractors.
● To liaise with onsite contractors.
● To regularly test and monitor fire alarms and emergency lighting.
● To monitor sanitary and cleaning supply stock levels and to request re-orders in a timely manner.
● To maintain waste pipes, downspouts, manholes and drains, ensuring they are clear of debris and operational.
● To ensure that hireable spaces are set up in line with requirements and provide feedback to the Operations Team regarding any changes to the use of space or equipment hired.


General
● To accept deliveries of goods to the building and allow access to contractors when required.
● Any other applicable duties as required.

Person Specification

Essential qualities or experience
● Ability to work on site from 7.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Fridays.
● Caretaking or similar background (for example, duty management, building security or any trade background).
● Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, e.g., lifting and carrying, working at height.
● Awareness of health and safety legislation, willingness to receive training.
● Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks independently.

Desirable qualities or experience
● Experience with Building Management Systems, such as heating, ventilation and cooling systems, and fire/security systems.
● Wide knowledge of building maintenance.
● Training related to the job (working from height and manual handling, health and safety, COSHH).
● Confident with basic computing.
● Knowledge of audio-visual equipment set up, maintenance and repair.
