ANIMAL TECHNICIAN (2 POSTS)

At the University of Liverpool, we are committed to the highest standards of care and welfare for animals used in medical research. We are seeking to appoint two full-time animal technicians to work in the University’s main animal facility.
As part of a dedicated and conscientious team, you will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of welfare and husbandry for various species of small laboratory animals. You will be responsible for delivering a technical service to facilitate the provision of care for protected species kept for experimental or other scientific purposes at the BSU, maintain strict biocontainment, and have responsibility for record keeping for all aspects of services pertaining to in vivo research in line with Home Office law.
You will be expected to contribute to the technical excellence and successful operation of the facility and in doing so, will work alongside skilled professionals committed to finding new cures and treatments for major diseases. You will need a flexible approach to work and be able to work independently under supervision as required, following appropriate training, and participate in the overtime rota.
You will ideally have an IAT qualification or be educated to BTEC National level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, and have experience of working as an animal technician, although full training will be given. A good working knowledge of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 would be desirable as would a Home Office personal licence or the certificate qualification to apply for one.
