- This role is fully on-site in our Oxford lab.
Shifts That Work Around You
- Choose to work 3 4 or 5 days a week shift rota
- Early or late shifts available to suit your schedule
- 7.5 hours (excluding 1-hour lunch)
- Weekly rota managed by your Line Manager

About the Role
- This is your chance to use your IHC skills in a role where every case counts.
- As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you’ll work across multiple lab sections — from specimen reception and dissection to IHC and special stains.
- You’ll apply your expertise in surgical sample preparation to directly impact diagnosis and patient care.
- You’ll support senior scientists, guide less experienced staff, and keep our lab running smoothly and accurately.
- Dissection skills will be at the core of what you do — and a key part of how you grow.
What You'll Help us Achieve
Use your IHC, dissection and technical skills across cut-up, processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and digitisation
Carry out accurate sample handling, tracking and storage
Support in supervision, training, and mentoring junior team members
Drive quality control, method development, and UKAS-compliant procedures
Help deliver AI-ready sample prep for R&D projects
Maintain high standards of documentation, reporting, and safety
Stay ahead of the curve through CPD and continuous learning
Calibrate and maintain equipment and manage lab inventory
Collaborate with pathologists and clinicians to deliver better results, faster
Regularly calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Monitor and manage inventory of reagents, supplies, and consumables to ensure uninterrupted testing operations.
Identify and resolve technical issues or anomalies in test results, and take corrective actions as needed.
Training required for the role, may include ISMS, GLP, DocuSign and GDPR awareness
What You’ll Bring
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (mandatory)
- 2-4+ years post-registration in UKAS-accredited histology labs
- Proven dissection experience with CPD and competency records
- Strong ability to troubleshoot lab equipment and procedures
- Knowledge of quality systems and validation processes
- Skilled in lab software, data analysis, and digital reporting
