A Vacancy at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic band 8a clinical pharmacist to join our Women’s and Neonates Pharmacy team, where you will be responsible for the delivery of a range of pharmacy services to the neonatal unit, maternity and fertility services. This will include the opportunity to participate in or lead a variety of quality and safety projects.

The majority of Women’s Health services are provided from within the dedicated EGA Wing at University College Hospital (UCH). We have a busy level three neonatal unit with close links to other UCLH specialist hospitals and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Currently we care for 17 intensive care babies, 15 special care babies and 13 transitional care babies. Our maternity unit cares for approximately 6,700 births per year and has a well established co-located midwifery-led birth centre.

The clinical pharmacy team is well integrated into clinical practice and works closely with doctors, nurses, midwives, and other ward staff in order to provide comprehensive clinical pharmacy support for inpatients, mothers, and neonates.

We are looking for a proactive and dynamic individual wanting to gain knowledge, skills, and experience, and further develop the high quality pharmacy service to these areas. We have a comprehensive digital health record system, Epic, covering all elements of care, and you will develop expertise in the system to support ongoing maintenance and optimisation.

On a daily basis, you will form part of a small team of pharmacists and a technician delivering a thorough clinical pharmacy service to the EGA Wing of UCH, including the neonatal unit. This includes support and advice on neonatal ward rounds, co-ordination of neonatal parenteral nutrition and CIVAS items, staff education, medicines management for maternity patients, and service delivery to high quality standards. You will also be a key liaison for the senior team within the Women’s Health Division, and will be expected to maintain and build upon the current service provided. Additional divisional responsibilities include governance, medicines expenditure analysis and reporting, cost improvement programme delivery, service evaluation, multiprofessional education and training, and other strategic projects as required.

You will also work as part of our broader clinical pharmacy team, and contribute to local and national initiatives to develop and enhance the pharmacy service and medicines management across the Trust. You will contribute to the delivery of educational and developmental programmes, including the Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, and our rotational programme for band 7 clinical pharmacists.
