Colwick Country Park Manager
Nottingham City Council
Closing Date: 7th September 2025
Salary: £40,777 - £44,075 pro rata for part time (Grade H) | Permanent | Part Time

Shape the future of one of Nottingham’s most-loved green spaces.
Colwick Country Park is a special place, 250 acres of lakes, woodland, and open space that attract everyone from early-morning anglers to open-water swimmers, families, and eventgoers. We need an energetic and commercially minded manager to run the day-to-day operations, inspire the on-site team, and grow the park’s offer for future generations.

You’ll oversee everything from marina operations and environmental protection to grounds maintenance and income generation. This is a role for someone who thrives in a hands-on, varied environment- one moment you might be negotiating a new café concession, the next, designing a new playground.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and motivating a team of Activation Rangers to deliver a safe, welcoming park for all visitors
  • Managing the marina, fishing lakes, concessions, and contracts- ensuring smooth operations and maximising income
  • Driving Park improvements through new activities, events, and facilities
  • Safeguarding visitors and wildlife through robust health & safety, first aid, and environmental practices
  • Protecting and enhancing habitats to boost biodiversity
  • Working closely with partners including activity providers, the Environment Agency, and local community groups
  • Managing budgets, forecasting, and delivering excellent value for money
  • Being a visible presence on site, solving problems, engaging with visitors, and ensuring high customer satisfaction

Who We’re Looking For
You’re an adaptable, practical, and people-focused leader who understands how to run a complex public site while unlocking its potential. You’ll need:

  • Experience managing teams and motivating staff to deliver their best
  • Knowledge of health & safety, first aid, water safety, and environmental protection
  • The ability to handle marina operations and small watercraft safely
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and commercial contracts
  • Confidence dealing with the public, community groups, and external partners
  • A willingness to work some weekends as part of a rota
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to work outdoors in all weather

Why This Role Matters
This isn’t just a job about keeping a park tidy. It’s about protecting a unique natural asset, creating opportunities for the community, and ensuring the park thrives financially and ecologically. You’ll help ensure:

  • Visitors have an exceptional, safe experience every time they come
  • Wildlife habitats are protected and enhanced
  • The park offers a growing range of activities and events
  • Public investment is supported by smart income generation
  • Colwick remains one of Nottingham’s most loved and vibrant green spaces

What You’ll Get

  • The chance to manage a unique, high-profile site with a varied remit
  • A role where no two days are the same
  • Opportunities for professional development and training
  • A supportive team environment
  • Flexible working and employee wellbeing support
  • Generous local government pension and holiday scheme
