The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, with responsibility for an annual budget of over £10bn, the Army is a major part of the Ministry of Defence and one of its largest operating centres who employ around 12,000 Civil Servants located at over 300 locations supporting the 110K regular and reserve soldiers across the Army. This Civil Service workforce is diverse, with many different functions and professions ranging from police officers, security guards, trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff.
JMC Southeast is a stand-alone Joint Military Command (JMC) with a fully integrated range of staff including Regular Army, Civil Service, Army Reservists and Aspire contractors. HQSE looks after the Army’s interests in the eight counties of the South-East, including the Isle of Wight, centred on the four pillars of ‘UK Operations’, ‘Firm Base’, ‘Engagement’ and ‘Cadets.’ The breadth of it’s responsibilities is wide and multifaceted, from assurance of the Field Army to command of UK Resilience Operations, all tasks that underpin the success of the Army on operations.
JMC SE enables the delivery of the Firm Base in support to the Army. The Firm Base is the Army infrastructure which supports the Lived Experience of our Service Personnel and their families who live there. The Headquarters will deliver Real Life Support to Units within the region. It is also responsible for engagement with the civilian community, employers and acts as the proponent for UK Resilience in times of need.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
This is a fantastic opportunity and an exciting time, as we establish a new Headquarters whilst continuing to deliver operational outputs to our dependent units, military personnel, and their families.
Key responsibilities:
First line support for MODNET and standalone IT assets.
Manage the provision of standalone IT across JMC SE Area of Responsibility (AoR), audit and scrutinise expenditure as required.
Creation and processing of Business Cases (BC) for changes to current infrastructure and IT requests in accordance with ACSO 1808.
Complete site surveys as directed by (ICS) Information Communication Systems Officer to assess means of providing for Unit requirements regarding efficiency, value for money and legal or contractual obligations.
Management of JMC IS (Information systems) / AV (Audio Visual) Loan Pool.
Configuration and asset management of standalone fleet of desktop, laptop, and printer assets.
Procurement of standalone IT and AV peripherals and equipment.
Support the management of the standalone IT/AV budget.
Contract Purchasing & Finance requestor for standalone IT & AV requirements.
Act as MODNET Local Security Officer for JMC.
Act as MODNET Secret Local Security officer and secondary budget approver for JMC.
Maintenance of equipment in support of UK Ops/JMC.
Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice to staff and Units on standalone IT matters, especially security.
First line repair for all standalone and MODNET ICS assets.
Deputy Information Technology Security Officer (DITSO) responsibility for JMC AoR, including Internet/WLAN accreditation.
Advise AoR Units on all non-MODNET technical issues relating to IT standalone and AV equipment.
Main focal point for disposal of all non-functioning or obsolete IT /AV equipment via the DESA process. Collating all items from Units for disposal from the HQ.
Prioritise own tasks to efficiently support Teams outputs.
Support problem solving via the application of policy direction or detailed instructions.
Efficiently provide relevant information to support senior staff decision making.
Use appropriate methods of communication such as email, Teams or face-to-face, taking into consideration the needs of the audience.
