If so, we have a great opportunity to join the Transport and Security Operations Centre (TSOC) as an Operational Response, Intelligence and Threats Advisor and we’d love to hear from you!
This role sits within TSOC, which manages the Department for Transports planning and response to civil contingency & security issues impacting the transport sector, alongside the Department’s intelligence function.
This is an exciting, challenging and high-profile role, where you will have regular exposure to Senior Officials and Ministers. You will be a core part of the team within the crisis management function, responsible for co-ordinating department response activity. As well as providing a critical intersect between UKIC (UK Intelligence Community) and the DfT.
You will need to be resilient, capable of working at pace and happy to work in an environment where roles can be flexible at times. You need to be confident in communicating with peers, seniors and key stakeholders within the DfT family, the transport sector and across Whitehall.
You will be required to take part in emergency responses dealing with high pressure situations that emerge suddenly. As this job responds to the unexpected, there will be times when you are required outside of normal work hours.

You will play a key role in supporting DfT responses, and the wider Department to be operationally ready to deal with large scale incidents on the transport network. The post holder will provide critical support across all aspects of the division’s work, covering counter terrorism and civil contingencies.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
Supporting the Department’s operational response to incidents impacting the transport sector.Managing and maintaining Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), to ensure DfT has effective contingency arrangements in place; embedding a more agile and resilient response across the Department. Horizon scanning for near term risks and anticipate potential operational impacts. Ensuring DfT has effective operational crisis management equipment and infrastructure in place to support incident response activity and that these are regularly reviewed and tested. Supporting the Department’s situational awareness through management of central inbox and operating a range of situational awareness tools. Support the day-to-day operations of the DfT STRAP facility, which includes triaging and printing intelligence reports to support stakeholders, monitor and manage the application of STRAP guidelines, build and maintain strong working relationships with STRAP authorities and UKIC stakeholders.Work with subject matter experts within DfT and its agencies to ensure DfT has effective operational crisis management procedures in place. Representing the department at cross-government meetings acting as an advocate for DfT’s interests. Form a core part of the department’s out of hours on-call rota, and fill key roles within the Departmental Operations Centre during a response.For further information on the role, please read the attached role profile.
