About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and resilient Residential Children’s Workers to join our team at Spring Cottage. This temporary role involves supporting children and young people with complex emotional, social, and behavioural needs, ensuring they are safe, nurtured, and empowered to thrive.
As part of our dedicated residential care team, you will act as a corporate parent, providing stability, care, and guidance while helping young people develop life skills, build positive relationships, and achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, therapeutically informed care for children and young people in line with individual care plans.
Act as a role model and “loco parentis,” ensuring children’s physical, emotional, and social development is supported.
Work collaboratively with families, schools, health professionals, social workers, and partner agencies to achieve the best outcomes.
Undertake key-working sessions with young people, offering support around education, health, independence, and wellbeing.
Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment that reflects the diverse needs of young people.
Accurately record and report on children’s progress, incidents, and care plan reviews.
Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and emergency situations.
Promote equality, diversity, dignity, and respect in all areas of practice.
About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people.
Essential skills and experience:
Experience of working with children or young people with emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties.
Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation.
Strong communication skills – able to engage with children, families, and professionals.
Ability to assess risk, make sound decisions, and maintain professional boundaries.
Flexible and resilient, able to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Minimum age 21 (in line with regulations).
Qualifications (required):
You must hold, be working towards, or be willing to complete within 2 years:
Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (or equivalent, e.g. NVQ 3 Caring for Children & Young People, NVQ 3 Health & Social Care).
Desirable:
Experience working with disabled children or young people, including moving/handling and personal care.
Knowledge of social pedagogy, emotional wellbeing, and mental health support.
