Responsibility for clinical leadership for all Ophthalmic nurses and Healthcare support workers. Responsible for advancing clinical practice at all levels. Ensuring that clinical teams demonstrate best practice and guidelines are available and adhered to within the department. Professional Duties To work within Trust policy and procedure guidelines and ensure that these are adhered to by the team. Work within codes of professional practice. To facilitate and lead the team in a positive flexible and strategic manner. Present a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic role model, providing leadership guidance and advice on strategic, operational and professional issues. To empower and motivate team members to maximise their knowledge, skills and expertise including Ophthalmic extended roles. Devise, review and support the implementation of policies related to nursing clinical practice and patient care. Managerial Duties - have experience in leading and implementing workforce change Can demonstrate a successful track record of improving team performance - implementing (and sustaining) programmes of improvement. Setting objectives and processes for monitoring performance and delivery at team and individual level Dealing with conflict and disagreement within teams A strong collaborator able to bring people together from different perspectives and opinions - working together for a shared purpose Effective influencer able to deliver persuasive arguments, maintain professional respect and acknowledging difference takes an inclusive and compassionate approach has experience of leading and managing diverse teams familiar with HR policies and practices has supported staff through effective line management and good people practice Participate in and support the implementation of service improvement and transformation projects within Ophthalmic services, nursing care and extended roles. To assist in the prompt resolution of complaints. To participate in the investigation of incidents/complaints as required, including preparing detailed reports/letters to complainants. Undertake Appraisals for Ophthalmic team members. Lead on the recruitment and selection of staff in line with Trust policy. Attend and participate in meetings as required including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate. Utilise information systems to plan and forecast future needs and ensure appropriate action. Monitor sickness, absence and competence issues, and implement Trust policies e.g. managing ill health, capability. Ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation, including promoting a no blame culture in order that incidents and near misses are reported.
