Help Grow a Greener, Healthier Nottingham

Do you believe that allotments are more than just patches of land, that they’re community hubs, wellbeing spaces, and climate heroes?

We're looking for an energetic, people-focused Allotment Greenspace Development Officer to lead on the development and day-to-day management of our city’s diverse and vibrant allotment network. This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for the outdoors, your knack for project management, and your commitment to community empowerment, all while making Nottingham greener, healthier and more sustainable.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Working directly with plot holders, volunteers, local groups and associations
  • Leading site improvements, minor works, and health & safety compliance
  • Writing and delivering site management plans and funding bids
  • Coordinating contractors, events, and capital development projects
  • Using your specialist skills (e.g. horticulture, GIS, asset management) to improve services
  • Promoting biodiversity, sustainability and inclusion in everything we do

Who We’re Looking for

  • Has practical experience in greenspace or allotment management
  • Can work confidently with contractors, communities and Councillors
  • Understands the importance of Green Flag standards, community engagement, and volunteer involvement
  • Knows how to manage budgets, procurement, health & safety and project timelines
  • Can juggle competing priorities while keeping an eye on the bigger picture
  • Is digitally confident (mapping tools, databases, reporting) and a good communicator

Why This Role Matters

Allotments are at the heart of Nottingham’s commitment to healthy living, community wellbeing and environmental resilience. From family growing spaces to sites of community heritage, this role helps unlock their full potential, while building meaningful relationships with the people who care for them.

What you’ll gain

  • A chance to help shape a greener and more inclusive Nottingham
  • A role with visible impact in your local community
  • Supportive colleagues and opportunities for professional development
  • Flexible working and employee wellbeing support
  • Generous local government pension and holiday scheme
