The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Research Technician to join the Shaw lab to support research focused on gastrointestinal macrophage development and functions, particularly their role in vivo models of gastrointestinal cancers.
Your main responsibilities will be to manage mouse colonies, monitor mice undergoing Home Office approved procedures, contribute to generating and analysing data, provide technical support and training to group members, order laboratory reagents, and maintain laboratory records.
You will join the Institute for Immunology and Infection Research at the University of Edinburgh, which is a vibrant scientific community within an exciting and beautiful city.
This post is advertised as part-time (0.4 FTE/14 hours per week), and we are open to considering flexible working patterns that fit with the research project objectives and timelines.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Immunology, or similar subject.
Experience in several laboratory techniques e.g. ELISAs, qPCR, tissue harvests and digests, immunohistochemistry, sample embedding in paraffin or OCT, cutting sections on a microtome or cryostat, RNA extraction, and sterile technique.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact productively with other team members.
Proactive approach to manage time effectively and efficiently support the research programme objectives.
Ability and enthusiasm to quickly learn and apply new techniques.
