Protect health. Support communities. Build a better Colchester.
Colchester City Council is committed to delivering high-quality and accessible services to residents, visitors and businesses. They are a local government authority providing a diverse range of public and commercial services across Colchester, the second largest district in Essex.
Make a real difference every day. Whether you're helping a vulnerable resident feel safe in their home, or tackling an infestation at a local business, this is work that matters.
Following the retirement of a dedicated colleague after 35 years of service, we are recruiting a Pest Control Officer. This is your chance to join a respected, growing team that delivers high-quality pest control services across the city; protecting homes, businesses, and public spaces.
Whether you're already working in pest control and want a more rewarding, stable career… or you're looking to start a future in Environmental Health… this role offers flexibility for all opportunities. We welcome practical, customer-focused individuals and those seeking progression through training and qualifications.
Duties of the role
Investigate and treat pest infestations
Support vulnerable residents and promote public health
Advise on prevention and sustainable pest management
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners
Help grow the service through customer engagement
Deliver the service with discretion, professionalism, and respect.
Qualifications and skills required
This role can be flexibly filled to tailor for a range of career routes. It is ideal for someone who is a:
Practical, customer-focused individual who enjoys being out and about, solving problems, and helping people; and/or
Those looking for more academic challenges to progress, with support to gain qualifications, and move into Technical or Environmental Health Officer roles over time.
So, whether you're already skilled in pest control or just starting out and eager to learn, we’ll support you to thrive whether that means staying in the role long-term or progressing into relayed areas.
Unlike commercial providers, we offer inclusive, affordable, and responsive services; especially for vulnerable residents. Our customers trust us, our reputation is strong, and our service continues to get high customer satisfaction from our personal approach. That makes this role more enjoyable, rewarding, more stable, and more impactful than many alternatives.
