Your new company
We are working with a well-established international financial institution with a long-standing presence in the UK. This organisation plays a key role in supporting cross-border banking and investment activity. Its UK operations span across corporate and institutional banking, with a focus on facilitating global trade and financial connectivity. The Legal and Company Secretariat function is central to ensuring that all legal and regulatory risks across UK operations are effectively identified, managed, and mitigated. It also upholds high standards of corporate governance. In the role of VP Legal Counsel, you'll provide senior-level legal advice to core business units such as corporate banking and financial institutions. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-impact legal work within a globally connected financial environment.
Your new role
- Lead legal support for Corporate Finance, including business partnering and development of precedents and guidance materials.
- Act as an expert in Corporate Banking, Trade, and Structured Finance.
- Represent Legal at committees and working groups, including those addressing non-performing loans.
- Support legal risk management and regulatory initiatives, including drafting policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely escalation and reporting of legal risks.
- Manage external counsel and oversee junior legal team members.
What you'll need to succeed
- 8 years England & Wales post qualification (guideline only)
- In-house banking experience, including secondments or consultancy roles.
- Expertise in corporate and structured finance (e.g. leveraged, asset, real estate, project, and trade finance).
- Familiarity with interbank lending, compliance, and executive-level reporting.
- Willingness to support broader legal areas
- Knowledge of trade finance instruments.
- Understanding of insolvency and restructuring frameworks.
- Solid grasp of financial services regulation and corporate governance.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and organisational abilities.
