The post holder will maintain a day-to-day onsite oversight of the practical setup of new clinical trials and logistical management of open trials. Responsibilities will include line management and development of clinical trial practitioners, research nurses, data managers and research assistants. The post holder will manage their own portfolio of clinical trial data and adequately support the research delivery team, liaise with R&D and the relevant clinical trial sponsor representatives to ensure smooth set up of clinical trials alongside R&D set up, to liaise with internal service support departments in relation to research, to work with the Lead Research Nurse (LRN) to ensure the trial portfolio is delivered in practice. The person will be responsible for operational management of the team and and maintain records of trial activity. The post holder will have a leading role to implement clinical trial practice according to principles of governance. Staff will continue to develop specialised skills and knowledge relating to their portfolio under management. The post-holder will be expected to work flexibly in support of staff on leave or in response to a continually changing portfolio of studies.
The NMUH Senior Research Nurse (SRN) is a nurse with experience in conducting and coordinating clinical trials. The SRN works in a collaborative role in conjunction with Principal Investigators, co investigators and all staff involved in the care and supervision of patients enrolled on trials, in the safe set up and recruitment to trials and in direct collaboration with clinical and academic teams recruiting to locally approved studies. Within this there is the need for visibility, expert communication and teaching skills to engender understanding and support for the research process across the Trust. The SRN is responsible for the oversight of a portfolio of studies, manages junior staff and leads in all communication to support recruitment, the reporting of clinical events and the collection of quality controlled data. The SRN will represent the Trust in working with external commercial, charities and funding bodies in the delivery of the trials under their management.
