The Customer Services Group is an important operational arm of the Home Office, responsible for delivering a wide range of public services that support the UK’s economy and cultural life. Our work spans the administration of passports, citizenship, civil registration, and visas, as well as managing asylum applications, support and accommodation, along with resettlement and returns.
We are recruiting for a variety of departments within Customer Service Group, providing support to case working areas by undertaking a range of administrative duties please see candidate pack for further details. The roles which you will be posted to will depend on the business need at the time of onboarding. There is no option to select your role.

This campaign will be used to fill future vacancies. Additional roles within Customer Services may become available over the next 12 months or as the campaign progresses, so if you are interested in being an Administrative Officer in Customer Services please do apply. Key Responsibilities (will include but not limited to the following):
This role requires you to be flexible, adaptive, and creative in solving problems and dealing with change. Individuals must have an ability to effectively organise and plan, whilst being professional and customer-focused. You must be able to demonstrate a strong sense of personal ethics and honesty and enjoy dealing with members of the public and external and internal stakeholders. You will demonstrate sound interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills and thrive working as part of a team.
You must be committed to meeting the high standards of conduct and behaviour that is expected of a civil servant.
- Making well informed decisions for our customers.
- Providing support by undertaking a range of administrative tasks such as: file movement and tracking, logging correspondence, monitoring electronic inboxes, issuing letters and dealing with customer queries.
- Scanning and digitising of customer supporting evidence and updating relevant databases/files.
- Ensuring case files are decision ready for casework, appeals or removal processes.
- Telephone call handling / booking appointments.
- Escorting customers, conducting face to face identity interviews and facilitating language analysis interviews.
- Able to demonstrate sound interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills and thrive working as part of a team.
The roles which you will be posted to will depend on the business need/priority at the time you gain full security clearance and pass pre-employment checks.
Postings will be staggered, and the timings will depend on the availability of accommodation/IT equipment.
Event
Civil Service recruitment uses the Success Profiles framework. This requires you to demonstrate, through real examples, how you are suitable for the role.
This is a different approach to a lot of private companies, so we are holding an event to share some hints and tips with you.
The call will be hosted by colleagues from the Home Office who will share their experiences of the recruitment process and will last for approximately 45 minutes.
We will talk about writing a strong Personal Statement and how to get the best out of your Interview.

Working Pattern
Full-time hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday between the core working hours of 7am to 7pm.)
We encourage applications from candidates who wish to work part-time; however, part-time opportunities cannot be guaranteed and are subject to the requirements of the role and business. Candidates wishing to work part-time should discuss this with the vacancy holder following successful completion of pre-employment checks, to explore whether this can be accommodated at your selected location.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office. Different roles will require varying levels of office attendance, some roles offer a minimum of 60% office attendance whilst others require 100% office attendance.
Training
Training will be provided for all roles; there may be an initial full time training requirement which may be office based.
