Highway's Operative - 3 Permanent Vacancies Available

About us

We are seeking motivated and hardworking highway operatives with extensive experience in laying tarmac and kerbs for schemes and / or large repair and maintenance works. You will join a highly active and diverse Highway Services Construction Team completing repairs of a wide variety of different sized jobs or undertaking footway and highway schemes on a daily basis.

You will be working alongside other highway operatives, street lighting operatives and gully crews delivering highways functions and delivery of schemes. The service is responsible for keeping the highway safe for all road users. The role also comes with generous pension and annual leave provision with local government benefits and potential for overtime.

About the Role

As an effective Highway Operative, you will be expected to apply your tarmacking and kerbing skills and be part of a team of highway front line staff working on live highway sites. You will be based outdoors working fixed hours between 8am and 4pm carrying out routine and reactive maintenance on highways, including pothole repairs, kerbing, drainage, using up to date machinery and tools including rollers, breakers, and compactors. You will need to be able to set up and remove temporary traffic management systems in accordance with safety regulations, complete job records and report defects using handheld devices or paperwork and work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to deliver high-quality services.

You will be expected to drive 7.5T vehicles as part of this role and work with a variety of different operatives depending on the nature of work required. You will be the representing the face of Salford which requires behaviours that demonstrate our values. Some weekend working and out-of-hours call out on a rota may also be required paid on an overtime basis.

About you

You will need skills and experience in laying tarmac and kerbing for repair and maintenance of highway works and schemes and will have worked on a live highway and what that requires in terms of Health and Safety. We're seeking someone who will not only fit seamlessly within the team but also display a commitment to continuous development and a dedication to working effectively for the City Council.

Punctuality and attendance is key to ensuring the work that is required to be delivered on a daily basis can be undertaken effectively and efficiently with site visits throughout the day across City.
