If you’re motivated, curious, and looking to take an exciting next step in your career, we are looking for an enthusiastic and talented person to join our busy and friendly Engagement, Visits and Events team at the Scotland Office.

We are Scotland’s voice in Whitehall and the UK Government’s voice in Scotland. That gives us a job like few others in government.

The role provides intellectual challenge, autonomy and creativity. You will work with colleagues to understand upcoming policy initiatives and how engagement, visits and events can support those priority areas of work. You will keep abreast of current affairs across Scotland, be adept at identifying opportunities and at building relationships with stakeholders. You will develop and deliver engagement, visit programs and events for Scotland Office Ministers.

You will be joining a supportive and experienced team that is open to new ideas and has an excellent reputation for delivering quality results. This role sits within the Strategic Engagement team of the Communications Directorate, working closely alongside social media, press and policy colleagues, as well as other departments across Whitehall. Success in this role will mean using your excellent interpersonal skills - you will have the face-to-face communication and influencing skills it takes to win the confidence of Ministers and external partners.

Events work requires disciplined perseverance and a general ability to 'get things done'. The Scotland Office has a busy schedule of events, some in very close succession, and so it is necessary to be well organised, enthusiastic / proactive and to adhere closely to time schedules.

Job Description



You will have strong organisational skills, be confident in working closely with Ministers and demonstrate an ability to work at pace. You will have a “can-do” attitude and be a proactive team player who can drive forward multiple priorities simultaneously.

The main duties of the post are:

Take the lead in arranging all aspects of a range of Scotland Office events and assist the Visit and Events Managers (based in Edinburgh) with the planning and execution of other high profile ministerial events in Dover House throughout the year.
Liaising with external stakeholders and assisting them in the planning and delivery of their events in Dover House.
Working with colleagues across the department to deliver elements of our stakeholder engagement plans, including research and analysis.
Providing logistical support to senior members of the communications team and private office colleagues.
Building effective, collaborative working relationships with departmental & Whitehall colleagues.
Join the department’s out-of-hours press service being on duty as part of a rota system.

Occasional travel between London and Scotland will be expected.
