The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

The Customer Services Group brings together Asylum & Human Rights, Asylum Support and Dispersal, Asylum Accommodation Centres, Resettlement Group, Passports, Citizenship & Civil Registration, Customer Operations Support Services and UK Visas & Immigration. As a major operational arm of the Home Office, we play a vital role in supporting the economy and cultural life of the UK.

PCCR contains three service lines: Passports, Citizenship and Civil Registration. It is an operational delivery area with a range of functions, which predominately considers applications for British Citizenship, applications for British Passports, and to support the recording of life events, including births, deaths and marriages/civil partnerships in England and Wales and to provide certificates via an application process.

You will work within the Judicial Outcomes Team with an aim to strengthen our capability to work with Law Enforcement Agencies and the Crown Prosecution Service to secure more judicial outcomes against those who seek to obtain passports fraudulently.

The Judicial Outcomes Team are a small, specialist team who conduct thorough investigations and build well-evidenced, high quality case files in accordance with national file standards.

We recognise the positive impact of deterring offenders as an important part of an effective fraud prevention strategy. As an investigator within this team you will contribute to the strengthening of our relationships with Law Enforcement Agencies, Home Office partners and prosecuting authorities across the UK, to define routes through which cases can be referred for executive action.

You will be responsible for the timely management of assigned investigations from the Higher Evidential Case Officer (HEO) ensuring a first-class service.

You will be resilient and able to operate effectively under pressure with great collaborative skills.

You will:

Develop investigations referred to the Judicial Outcomes Team at the direction of the Higher Evidential Case Officer (HEO).

Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build on existing partnership collaboration.

Gather evidence and identify exhibits, ensuring preservation, continuity and exhibit integrity is maintained.

Produce witness statements to support ongoing investigations, attending court to give evidence where required.

Conduct PACE interviews at Police stations with detained suspects or at Home Office premises with suspects attending voluntarily.

Accurately update Case Management Systems with investigative enquiries and outcomes.

Work closely with internal colleagues, providing investigative support and knowledge where required.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting thorough passport fraud related investigations and identifying criminal offences.
• Liaising with internal & external stakeholders.
• Conducting detailed system checks.
• Completion of Data Protection forms to external stakeholders.
• Conducting interviews in accordance with PACE and the Codes of Practice.
• Producing evidence and witness statements to support ongoing investigations.
• Accompanying Law Enforcement Agencies during warrant executions.
• Preparing casefiles for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Working Pattern

Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.

Travel
You must be willing and able to travel throughout the UK to perform your role. This includes attendance at police stations and other Law Enforcement establishments, occasionally working longer days with early morning starts.
The work can often involve a change of duties at short notice.
