Purpose of the Role: To support the Cancer Community Programme Manager to scope, analyse and fully understand the North Shields fishing community in accessing cancer healthcare services and develop an education and awareness programme. This will include addressing barriers around support to aid screening uptake, presentation at primary care to aid earlier diagnosis, supportive care through cancer pathways for ongoing physical and emotional support to improve outcomes for patients with cancer and those having completed treatment.
Duration:To end of March 2027
Hours: 37 hours per week (some weekend and out of hours working may be required). The Fishermen’s Mission operates hybrid working practices, with a level of flexibility to ensure service needs are met, and as agreed with line manager.
With oversight from the Cancer Community Programme Manager, the Cancer Community Engagement Officer will oversee the day-to-day tasks of engaging with fishermen, their families, and communities to raise the profile and awareness of early cancer screening, testing and treatment. The Cancer Community Engagement Officer will work in partnership with all identified stakeholders to raise the profile of the Cancer Community Programme.
