Job Summary – Consultant in Haematology

The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) is seeking a Consultant in Haematology to join our dynamic and collaborative department. The successful applicant will contribute to the diagnosis and management of both malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions, with responsibilities spanning outpatient clinics, inpatient care, laboratory oversight, and MDT participation.

Post Details:

Full-time, 10 PAs (part-time applicants are welcome)

Base: Royal United Hospital, Bath

On-call rota: 1 in 7 weekends (non-resident weekday cover)

Relocation support available

Honorary academic appointment with the University of Bristol possible

Essential Qualifications:
FRCPath or equivalent

M/FRCP

Key Clinical Responsibilities:

Provide specialist outpatient and inpatient care

Participate in “hot week” acute haematology cover

Contribute to subspecialty multi-consultant clinics

Engage in MDTs and liaise with GPs

Maintain shared responsibility for ward rounds and cross-covering colleagues

Department Structure:

Team includes consultants, registrars, clinical fellows, physician associates, nurse practitioners, and a secretarial team

Strong collaborative environment with oncology and lab teams

Active involvement in governance and service development

Additional Duties:

Attend monthly M&M, transplant, consultant and directorate meetings

Take on shared leadership roles (e.g., lab lead, clinical trials, governance)

Supervise junior doctors and medical students

Participate in research (robust clinical trial portfolio) and CPD (10 study leave days/year)

Teaching involvement with the University of Bristol Medical School

Governance & Appraisal:
Annual job plan review and appraisal required

Engagement in clinical governance, audit, and effectiveness

Admin responsibilities associated with patient care and service delivery
