The post holder will report directly to the Infection Prevention & Control Site Lead for Kent & Canterbury Hospital.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of the infection surveillance service within the Trust, across all pathways, focussing on Surgical site infection Surveillance (SSIS), managed within the Infection Prevention and Control Team, supported by Surgical leads across the organisation. The post holder will work closely with the data collection and entry clerks – managed through Surgery, and specialist clinicians in surgery, to ensure there is a robust system in place to identify infections, and report through the national surveillance programme, care groups and the infection control team, to enable effective multi disciplinary approach to reduce avoidable infections.
• Infection Surveillance data collection ensuring completion of surveillance forms e.g. surgical site infection forms
• Ensuring close surveillance is undertaken of all patients in defined groups to identify surgical wound infections to determine incidence and prevalence
• To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals
• Oversee data entry and coding for SSIS, supporting the data entry clerks
• To work with the MDT to review potential causes of infections and identify areas or learning, and actively support the SSI steering group
• Teach support and develop staff in the clinical teams
• Identify problems and be involved in developing improved methods of work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
