Our district covers 339 square kilometres and is home to around 355,000 people. Almost 70% of the Wakefield district is designated as green belt. We are looking for experienced Procurement Category Managers to be part of our Corporate Procurement team.



What will be expected from me?

Procurement and Contract Management plays a key role in supporting the local economy and helping the Council meet its future challenges. We have exciting opportunities to join our progressive & friendly procurement team here at Wakefield Council.



Taking the professional procurement category lead, you will provide advice, guidance and manage the end-to-end procurement activities. The portfolio comprises of the following Services – Property and Construction, Highways, Transport, Regeneration and Environmental Services. You will play an influential part in shaping procurement solutions which deliver value for money and have focused outcomes that help directorates achieve the best possible results for our residents.



With a focus on delivering a best-in-class service you will have the opportunity to develop a category led approach to procurement, which will influence spend, understand business needs and develop innovative sourcing opportunities that will contribute towards a positive legacy within the Council and in the community it serves.



What I might be doing?

It will be your responsibility to manage end-to-end procurement activity to establish contracts and arrangements.
Ensure a planned, proactive approach is maintained to improve procurement activity within your category of spend.
Provide procurement advice and guidance to key stakeholders and other Council Officers.


Essential requirements:

Minimum CIPS Level 4 or demonstratable equivalent experience in a procurement/commissioning setting
This role would suit an experienced procurement professional with skills in stakeholder management, contract management experience and have a sound understanding and knowledge of public sector procurement.
Have a keen eye for detail, analytically minded and be able to adapt to quickly identify options, develop procurement strategies and effective procurement solutions.
Demonstrable organisational and planning skills and the ability to share knowledge with colleagues at all levels.
Excellent communication skills
