This innovative, 1 year fixed term post is designed for a Higher Specialist Trainee (or equivalent) in Emergency Medicine to: Develop their skills in the holistic assessment of patients Gain a qualification in Palliative Medicine or Medical Education subject to approval Gain experience in service development, audit and quality improvement. It would also be suitable for a trainee in Palliative Care or General Internal Medicine with substantial Acute Care experience. Applications from post CCT trainees will also be considered. The successful candidate will contribute to the Emergency Department middle grade rota for 50% of their contracted time. The other 50% of the time will be spent working alongside the Marie Curie REACT Service in the Emergency Department. The successful applicants main clinical role in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical work at middle grade level in the department and to supervise members of the junior medical staff on a continuous basis (as outlined in the job plan). The postholders role within the REACT service will involve working closely with medical and nursing colleagues within Palliative and Emergency Medicine to identify and support patients presenting to ED with unmet palliative care needs. If appropriate, patients will then be referred into the new 7-day Marie Curie REACT virtual ward. The postholder will be encouraged to take an active role in audit and service development where there will be opportunities to present this work both locally and regionally. Depending on the skills of the postholder there may be opportunities to be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and the education of allied health professionals.
