Summary
Do you want your work to contribute directly to public safety and help millions of people understand and engage with government services?
If so, we’d love to hear from you!
We’re looking for a talented and purpose-driven individual to join us as a graphic communications specialist at DVSA. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of how we visually communicate vital road safety information and government services. The communication platforms include GOV.UK, partner websites, social media, press channels, and commercial materials.
You’ll be responsible for the professionalism, clarity and effectiveness of all graphical content—whether it’s an infographic, an animated explainer, a social media illustration, or a video. You’ll combine your design expertise with user insight and data to create assets that are beautiful, easy to understand, easy to act on, and fully aligned with government design standards.
As a champion of the DVSA’s corporate identity and visual voice, you’ll help protect and develop our reputation, making sure all visual communications reflect our mission and values. You’ll support the Content Design Lead as a trusted expert on how graphical communication can meet the needs of real users—making government information simpler, clearer and faster to use.
This is more than just a design role. It’s an opportunity to shape the way millions of people understand road safety, keep themselves and others safe, and comply with national standards. You’ll work at the intersection of creativity and public service—bringing to life graphics that truly make a difference.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- designing user-led and effective corporate content for DVSA, including graphic design, illustration and animation
- sourcing photography and specialist illustration
- applying corporate identities
- developing modern and engaging content that is simple, clear and fast for defined users
- using established procedures or contributing to the development of new ones as part of the user-centred design profession
- maintaining a professional network with colleagues
- acting as advisor and subject expert on illustration, design and graphic communications
- managing design studio resources and responsibilities effectively, maximising the efficiency and effectiveness of resources in line with the Civil Service values
- working with colleagues to meet internal and external customer needs and communicate these requirements throughout the business
