Royal Greenwich is embarking on major service changes and we are looking for someone who can embed a culture of best practice and continuous improvement in operational services.
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for service excellence and innovation? We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking manager to lead our waste collection and street cleansing operations.
About the Role
As the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for performance and improvement of high-quality waste collection and street cleansing services. You will lead a large workforce, drive performance improvements, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, while fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, and professionalism.
You will:
- Lead and manage the delivery of waste collection and street cleansing services.
- Monitor and improve service performance using data-driven approaches.
- Ensure compliance with current and emerging legislation.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, elected members, and external stakeholders.
- Promote a culture of safety, communication, and continuous improvement.
We are looking for someone with:
- A strong understanding of current and future legislation related to waste collection and street cleansing.
- Proven ability to foster a culture of accountability, inclusion, and professionalism.
- Skilled in analysing data, monitoring performance, and implementing corrective actions.
- Comfortable working in complex, political environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communication skills across all levels of an organisation.
- Proficient in IT with the ability to quickly learn new systems.
- Significant experience in a management or senior management role within waste collection or street cleansing.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large operational teams effectively.
- Experience using data and evidence to drive service improvements.
- A clear understanding of and commitment to the Council's equal opportunities policies and staff values.
- Full Category B (car) driving licence.

You will generally work a 35-hour standard Monday to Friday week, however, flexibility is essential to meet the needs of the service.
