Summary
The Practice Standards and Capability (PSC)Team is one of several PSFA functions and exists to support and oversee the development of the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP). The team comprises c.16 FTE split between Capability, Standards and Membership.
As a member of the Practice and Standards Team, you will play a key role in a small, dynamic team that provides standards and practice to the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP), you will collaborate closely with various public bodies and engage with an oversight board and other stakeholder groups. You will be instrumental in developing strategies that enhance the capabilities of members of the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP). This includes fostering strong engagement with GCFP membership and developing innovative products and resources designed to evolve and professionalise the GCFP.
Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP)
The Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP) comprises over 8,000 members from approximately 85 public bodies dedicated to combating fraud across the public sector. The GCFP facilitates the sharing of individual and organisational learning, enabling us to advance our efforts against the ongoing threat of fraud.
The establishment of the GCFP and the sustained investment in counter fraud resources exemplify the Government's commitment to detecting and addressing fraud in the public sector.
The Profession is focused on confronting fraud directly by investing in a skilled workforce that is at the forefront of safeguarding public services and tackling economic crime. By providing learning pathways, assurance of capability and competence, standards, guidance, and tools for GCFP members to enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience, we ensure that public sector organisations benefit from a shared understanding of the competencies required to counter fraud while recognising the professionals leading this vital effort.
Through the ongoing empowerment of its members throughout their careers, the GCFP community will continue to evolve and strengthen, effectively protecting public services and combating economic crime.
As part of the Practice and Standards team, you’ll join a small and dynamic team providing capability services to PSFA and the Government Counter Fraud Profession, bringing expertise together to define practices, develop standards and increase capability across the public sector through the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP). Development of professional standards is critical to the expansion of the GCFP and a move to a more proactive preventive approach to counter fraud across the Public Sector.
The Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP) Board has already approved the development of a number of Standards for Practitioners covering the main areas of the Counter Fraud Framework. The GCFP board is committed to growing this offering and is now seeking an experienced individual to develop further standards to support the implementation of a consistent approach to counter fraud in central government.
We are looking for a talented individual who has a deep understanding of counter fraud knowledge to research, design, develop and publish new professional standards and guidance and ensure that all published documentation is regularly reviewed and updated to incorporate the latest thinking, guidance and legislation.
They should be passionate about challenging the status quo, making a difference, fighting fraud, developing capability and shaping how the public sector effectively understands and reduces the impact of fraud.

If you enjoy taking ownership of your own work, communicating proactively and supporting the development of counter fraud across the public sector and have experience of working in, and demonstrable sound expertise knowledge of counter fraud, economic crime or counter bribery & corruption, this is the role for you
- Research, design, develop and publish new professional standards and ensure that all published documentation is regularly reviewed and updated to incorporate the latest thinking, guidance and legislation.
- Working closely with other parts of the public and private sectors to understand future Practice and Standards requirements.
- Working closely with the GCFP Board to enhance counter fraud capability across the public sector, re implementation of new policies and GCFP standards.
- Developing capability and shaping how the public sector effectively understands and reduces the impact of fraud.
- Other duties identified by the Practice, Standards and Capability Team management as the role evolves
