Exciting Opportunity: Band 5 Biomedical Scientist – Clinical Microbiology

Are you a passionate and driven HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist looking to take the next step in your career? The Department of Clinical Microbiology is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic and supportive team.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care and laboratory practice. The ideal candidate will be HCPC registered and have successfully completed the IBMS Registration Portfolio. Experience working in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory is essential.

To perform a range of bacteriological, serological and molecular specialised microbiological testing, and use interpretative skills to provide reports to clinicians that detail the causative organism(s) of infection, and interpret and report the antibiotics susceptibility results to aid patient treatment.

The Department has full UKAS accreditation , HCPC/IBMS training status and CPD participation is actively encouraged. The Department processes around 400,000 specimens a year and is in a modern laboratory that opened in 2006. The Department’s equipment includes BACTEC FX, MALDI, MGIT, iQ200, VIDAS 3, GeneXpert, Cobas E801, BioFire FilmArray, Adagio, and MicroScan.

CliniSys WinPath Enterprise is the LIMS used within the laboratory and most areas within the Trust and GP surgeries are using Sunquest ICE for test requesting.

The Department will routinely be working 07:00 until 21:00 including weekends and public holidays. The successful applicant will be contracted to work a 24/7 Shift system, averaging 37.5 hours per week. The payment scheme is in line with Agenda for Change terms and conditions.
