South Lanarkshire Council are seeking to appoint a skilled, enthusiastic, self motivated Technical Officer (Contaminated Land Officer) to work within Environmental Services.

Working as part of the Specialist Support Team specifically dealing with Contaminated Land Strategy and developments across South Lanarkshire. The post holder will be required to assist in the identification of potential risks from land contamination to residents, the public, controlled waters and the built and natural environment from land contamination on existing and development sites.

In addition, a key role of the post will be to support the regulation of land contamination risks under the planning regime by advising on non-routine and complex developments and the adoption of appropriate conditions. They will assist in determining the suitability of non routine investigation reports, risk assessments, remediation schemes and verification reports submitted by developers. Another important element of the post will be to maintain the relevant computer/manual mapping and database records utilised by the Service.

The successful applicant should have a relevant science based degree, with preferably a good understanding of the Scottish land contamination regulatory framework and GIS systems. Candidates should be able to demonstrate self-motivation, be a good communicator and have a commitment to quality service.

The role will include liaison with Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA). They will be tackling complex impactful pieces of work. Contaminated land experience or related experience, ideally in delivering within a local authority setting would be desirable but not essential.

This is a permanent post. You will be required to travel to various locations within South Lanarkshire.
