Base Location: Perth
Salary: £66,100 - £99,100 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
This is a senior role responsible for leading energy market analysis within SSEs Market Design team. The position plays a key role in shaping SSEs response to GB electricity market design by identifying and analysing market issues, offering commercial insight, and interpreting complex developments. It also supports the strategic direction of SSEs Energy Businesses in the GB market and contributes to assessing relevant international opportunities.
You will
- Lead high-quality analysis to influence SSEs strategic decisions across its Energy Businesses, ensuring trading, operational, and market frameworks deliver maximum commercial value in a changing and highly scrutinised GB market environment.
- Provide evidence-based analysis to support SSEs advocacy on high-value market design and policy issues. Contributes to industry consultations, market reform proposals, and represents SSEs commercial interests in forums, trade associations, and meetings with regulators and government.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g. Ofgem, Government, NESO), using analysis to influence third-party thinking, shape market design, and advance SSEs strategic objectives.
- Offer expert commercial insight and guidance to internal stakeholders, ensuring timely interpretation and communication of market design developments. Supports decision-making through clear and concise analysis aligned with business priorities.
- Manage and mentor team members, including direct line management. Drives team performance by fostering analytical excellence, knowledge sharing, and a deep understanding of market developments.
You have
- Deep Energy Market Expertise: Strong knowledge of SSEs Energy Businesses and the GB electricity market, with awareness of international market influences, regulatory frameworks, and how these align with broader strategic objectives.
- Policy and Market Design Insight: Proven experience in navigating complex energy policy, market design, and regulatory environments, with a clear understanding of how these interact with commercial priorities and business value.
- Analytical and Technical Proficiency: Advanced analytical skills, including structuring and interpreting complex energy market data and policy developments, supported by a solid grasp of the technical aspects of electricity markets.
- Strategic Communication and Influence: Skilled in producing and presenting high-quality, succinct analysis to internal and external stakeholders, with strong communication and influencing abilities across varying levels and functions.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated people management experience, with the ability to lead, collaborate, and engage effectively across diverse internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality work.
