Your new role
As a Housing Options Officer, you will be the first point of contact for individuals and families facing housing difficulties. You'll provide expert advice, assess housing needs, and work proactively to prevent homelessness. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting interviews and assessments under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended).
- Delivering tailored housing advice and support to prevent homelessness.
- Liaising with landlords, support agencies, and housing providers to secure sustainable housing solutions.
- Managing caseloads efficiently and ensuring compliance with statutory duties.
- Coordinating placements into interim and long-term accommodation.
- Supporting vulnerable clients, including those with complex needs, through multi-agency working.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Recent experience in a housing-related environment, particularly in homelessness prevention and housing advice.
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work empathetically with clients in crisis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- A relevant qualification (QCF Level 4 or equivalent) or significant practical experience.
