Opening in early 2026, Base71 Youth Zone is an ambitious new £10 million facility designed to transform the lives of young people in Barnsley. Open seven days a week, it will offer a wide range of high-quality, inspiring activities in a safe, welcoming, and purpose-built environment.
Base71 is part of the national OnSide network, which empowers young people across the UK through world-class youth work and inclusive opportunities.
Your role:
As Catering Lead, you will be responsible for running all aspects of an inspiring, healthy and cost-effective catering provision, including managing Catering Assistants. The role includes creating, preparing and cooking inspiring, innovative and appealing dishes that are low cost. You will be responsible for managing a sustainable service; taking responsibility for the provision of a popular menu, working to a strict budget and minimising waste.
You’ll also:
• Line manage the catering team, together with arranging and managing staffing rotas for the café, including staff holidays, within the staffing budget.
• Build and maintain connections with local food banks and suppliers to ensure Base71 Youth Zone is getting the best service and value for our customers.
• Develop and adjust menus based on food availability and nutritional needs, cooking a wide rang of home cooked foods, minimising waste.
• Be a role model to young people, fostering an environment where they feel confident and welcome.
• Be responsible for establishing and maintaining a world class food hygiene system.
