The Role:

The University of Portsmouth has recently invested £57 million in building Ravelin Sports Centre, offering unrivalled facilities including, a state of the art 175 station gym; 3 fitness studios; climbing wall; two squash courts; two sports halls and a 25 meter, 8 lane swimming pool.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a proactive, solution-focused approach to work, to ensure the smooth running of the gym and fitness studios and deliver a broad range of fitness programmes and services including but not limited to, gym inductions, training programmes, fitness classes, personal training and small group training sessions.

The post holder should have the desire and ability to deliver life-changing experiences through sport and physical activity and foster a safe and motivational setting within which our member’s health and fitness goals can be achieved.

The role should be delivered in line with our vision, mission and values at all times, playing a key role in enhancing the University’s reputation for sport and establishing the University as one of the leading modern universities for sport.

The post holder will work hours on a shift-based system, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, University Closure days and Bank Holidays over a 362-day-a-year service.


The working pattern for this post is 0.8FTE (average 30 hours per week) to be worked over a 2 week rota as detailed below:


Week 1

Tuesday: 14:15-22:45 (45 min break)
Thursday: 06:15-14:45 (45 min break)
Friday: 06:15-14:15 (45 min break)

TOTAL: 22:75 Hours

Week 2

Tuesday: 14:15-22:45 (45 min break)
Thursday: 14:45-22:45 (45 min break)
Friday: 14:15-22:45 (45 min break)
Saturday: 13:00-21:15 (45 min break)
Sunday: 06:45-14:30 (45 min break)

TOTAL: 37:25 Hours
