This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a young, dynamic team of interventional cardiologists within a well-established and highly respected cardiology department. The role includes dedicated sessions in the cardiac catheterisation lab and as part of a robust primary angioplasty rota.
The role not only provides hands-on interventional cardiology opportunities but also places emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical leadership, and service development. You will play a central role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care through consultant-led coronary care unit (CCU) ward rounds, the management of acute cardiac inpatients, and outpatient cardiology clinics.
You will be working across two hospital sites, joining a team of 15 consultant cardiologists who are supported by a highly skilled and committed group of nurses, physiologists, and junior medical staff. The department prides itself on maintaining a culture of clinical excellence, continuous improvement, and strong educational values. It has a strong track record in innovation and research and actively encourages involvement in service development and academic pursuits.
Main Duties of the Job
• Provide consultant-level care in interventional cardiology, with regular sessions in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory, contributing to the 24/7 primary PCI service.
• Lead daily ward rounds on the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), ensuring continuity of care and timely decision-making for acute cardiology patients.
• Run consultant-led outpatient cardiology clinics, offering expert diagnostic and treatment services across a range of cardiac conditions.
• Contribute to the supervision, mentoring, and teaching of junior medical staff, including specialty trainees, foundation doctors, and medical students.
• Participate actively in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
• Engage with ongoing educational activities and professional development, both as a participant and as a facilitator.
• Support the department’s involvement in research, innovation, and the development of new clinical pathways.
• Applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Cardiology or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview. Alternatively, candidates with a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) must already be listed on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application.
