Summary


The Lead Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) will provide oversight of the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement (A-EQUIP) model within the maternity department. This model provides a continuous improvement process that builds upon personal and professional resilience, enhances quality of care and supports preparedness for registered midwives in appraisal and professional revalidation. The ultimate aim is that this continuous improvement process of the “A-EQUIP” model will become an intrinsic part of everyone’s job, everyday, in all parts of the system.



· Provide a supportive function

· Support professional resilience

· Support midwives to provide high quality care and identify areas for improvement.

· Support the advocacy role of the midwife

· Include strategies which develop and invest in midwives

· Allow flexibility for local implementation

· Not to create additional financial pressures on providers



There will be a requirement to support on calls either within the community team or within the maternity unit.

Work as an experienced practitioner, ensure standards of practice and support a safe, quality service, within available resources that aims to meet the needs of the woman and her family in achieving the outcome they believe is excellent for their circumstances, referring to other professionals and outside agencies as appropriate.

Work with the Maternity Team Leaders in providing efficient and effective maternity care within available resources, meeting agreed standards; objectives and statutory requirements.
