Summary
A school in London is seeking a passionate and committed SEMH English Teacher to join their team in August 2025. This is a full-time, permanent position ideal for someone with the compassion, creativity, and structure to make English come alive for young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
You'll be teaching small classes in a calm, structured environment designed to help students re-engage with learning. Many of the learners have experienced disrupted education or trauma, and your ability to build trust and adapt content will be key.
Working closely with support staff, therapists, and pastoral leads, you'll deliver engaging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. Whether it's unlocking creative writing or building confidence in reading, you'll help students find their voice - both academically and emotionally.
This school takes a trauma-informed approach to learning and provides excellent staff development, manageable workloads, and a team culture where your contributions are recognised. You'll also receive a competitive salary and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference every day.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and deliver differentiated English lessons to students with SEMH needs
• Build strong, consistent relationships with students based on trust and respect
• Support pupils' literacy development through engaging content and structure

• Work in collaboration with TAs, pastoral staff and external agencies
• Support whole-school initiatives that promote wellbeing and positive behaviour
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
• Experience teaching English at KS3/KS4
• Understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches
• Strong behaviour management and relational skills
• Creative and flexible approach to curriculum delivery
• Commitment to inclusion and helping students achieve at their own pace
• Prior experience in specialist or alternative provision is advantageous
