Flood Risk Engineer – Remote Working

Bristol 5270743

£277.57 per day PAYE

Start date: 22 September 2025 until 10 April 2026



The role:

Working from home / remotely is acceptable for this role if preferred. Occasional office days required. The flood risk team works together in the office on Mondays.

This role is to fulfil the council's duty as the Lead Local Flood Authority to provide consultation responses to planning applications with regards to surface water flood risk and drainage. Duties include tracking and monitoring consultations from the Local Planning Authority and providing a response within 21 days of receiving the consultation.



Key Responsibilities

Provide Statutory Planning Consultation Responses
Review and respond to planning application consultations from the Local Planning Authority within 21 days, ensuring compliance with the council’s responsibilities as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA).
Assess Surface Water Flood Risk and Drainage Proposals
Evaluate the flood risk and sustainable drainage strategies submitted with planning applications, offering expert advice to ensure appropriate mitigation and compliance with relevant guidance and legislation.
Monitor and Track Consultation Requests
Maintain accurate records of incoming consultations and outgoing responses, ensuring timely, effective, and consistent service delivery.



Key Criteria

Relevant Technical Experience
Demonstrable experience working in flood risk management and/or drainage design, particularly in a planning or development control context.
Knowledge of Relevant Policy and Guidance
Understanding of national and local planning policy relating to flood risk (e.g. NPPF, SuDS standards) and the role of the LLFA.
Organisational and Communication Skills
Proven ability to manage multiple consultations simultaneously, meet deadlines, and communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
