Pay rate: £350.86 per day PAYE
Six months initially but possibility for this to become a permanent role.
Ideally all office based but possibility of one day per week at home.
A full Driving License is required for this role.
The role:
As the Principal Docks Engineer, you will develop and deliver a strategic approach to delivering harbour repairs worth more than £100m over the next decade as well as providing an efficient, safe & effective Head of ‘Engineering’ function within the City Docks to ensure that the infrastructure of the City Docks is correctly maintained.
Key responsibilities:
To provide professional & practical expertise and strategic direction to all engineering & dredging matters within the city Docks and the engineering team
To provide systems & advice for Health & Safety regulations & EMAS/ ISO14001 considerations within the City Docks
To promote, plan, organise, manage and deliver on all identified and programmed Docks engineering within associated budgets and in support of the Harbour Act/Order and Byelaws and any other policies and procedures
Be responsible for the effective management and development for the delivery of all Capital Programmes and Budgets within the Docks Engineering Team
Responsible for negotiating, monitoring & managing Docks portfolio of supplier contracts to secure the overall improvements and other benefits set out in each contract. Be responsible for working with colleagues and stakeholders in the wider city council to ensure that suppliers meet the appropriate standards
To optimise the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the service or relationship described by each contract, balancing costs against risks and actively managing the customer provider relationship
To undertake projects and re-engineering processes to achieve targeted performance improvements
Solely responsible for planning and implementing a strategic approach to how to manage a large historic harbour spanning 5 miles and is over 200 years old
Solely Responsible for a variety of infrastructure including Harbour Walls, Main Lock Gates, Sluice gates, Locks throughout the Harbour, all swing bridges and flood defence within the Harbour
What the client is looking for:
Minimum BEng (Hons) or equivalent demonstrable industry experience in related engineering discipline
Proven record of significant experience in a related engineering discipline including site experience
Proven experience of leadership/supervisory experience of a multi-disciplined team, including experience in capital and revenue budget management
Proven experience and skills in mechanical/hydraulic/marine/electrical maintenance in a docks environment
Proven experience in working with complex task management controls & asset management software systems and apply Health & Safety statutory legislation & risk assessments and risk management (incl. RAMS protocols) in a dock’s environment
Have the technical ability to be the “technical expert” and demonstrable ability to problem solve in unexpected & unplanned situations, involving multiple agencies/individuals, showing a decisive & confident approach.
Ability to interpret and monitor financial and statistical data and to cost and plan budgets
Ability to analyse, prioritise and organise complex work programmes to meet deadlines and to use and apply recognised project methodology accurately and effectively
Ability to converse with citizens, stakeholders and cabinet members and provide complex information
A full driving license
Must be willing to respond to out-of-hours emergencies on a call-out system
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications or equivalent and have a willingness to learn new applications and technology
