Are you an enthusiastic and flexible Peripatetic Teacher of the Deaf ready to join a well-established, highly skilled, and committed team? We are seeking an enthusiastic professional dedicated to inclusive education, with an attachment-informed and nurturing approach, and GIRFEC principles at the core of your practice.
In this role, you will advise and support provision for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and young people (CYP) aged 3-18 across mainstream schools and enhanced resource bases on the Orkney mainland and outer Isles schools.
Your role will include promoting inclusive education in alignment with the Curriculum for Excellence, the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004, and the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) framework.
Working collaboratively with multi-agency teams, you will ensure equitable access to education and support the academic, social, and emotional development of deaf pupils.
Your key responsibilities will be consultancy and consultation, planning learning and teaching including co-operative/team teaching with class teachers, identification and assessment, partnership with specialist services, and contributing to staff professional development.
We are looking for a qualified teacher of the deaf (or in the process of completing a Pg Diploma Inclusive Education - Deaf Learners) with enthusiasm, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive education.
You should have knowledge of GIRFEC, attachment theory, and nurturing approaches. You must be proficient in communication methods, including spoken English and British Sign Language (BSL) (Level 2 BSL or willingness to work towards it) and have the ability to work effectively across diverse school settings, including remote locations.
A degree or PGCE is essential. You must also have an additional qualification in deaf education such as a Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Deaf Education or be in the process of completing this.

Salary is based on the main grade of the SNCT Teacher Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance.
