SEN Teaching Assistant
EYFS - Stockport

Contract type: Full-time, long-term supply (Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 15:30, term-time)
Daily rate: £105
Start: September 2025

A warm and inclusive primary school in Stockport is looking to appoint a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in EYFS with autism. This role involves close collaboration with teaching staff to create a nurturing and structured environment where the child can build confidence, communication, and independence through a personalised learning approach.

The successful candidate must be comfortable with providing personal care and supporting with toileting needs, as part of the daily routine.

Key responsibilities:
- Providing 1:1 support for a child in EYFS with autism, both in the classroom and during play-based learning
- Assisting with personal care, including toileting and hygiene routines
- Supporting communication through tools such as PECS or Makaton (training can be provided)
- Aiding with sensory regulation and emotional support throughout the day
- Implementing strategies and routines aligned with behaviour and therapy plans
- Liaising regularly with the class teacher, SENCO, therapists, and wider school team to ensure consistent and tailored support

This role would suit someone who is empathetic, proactive and dedicated to supporting young learners with additional needs. Full induction and training will be provided, with ongoing support from experienced professionals.

Essential requirements:
- Previous experience supporting children with autism or additional learning needs
- Comfortable with personal care and toileting support
- A calm, nurturing, and resilient approach to working with children
- Right to work in the UK and availability for full-time, term-time work

Desirable (but not essential):
- PECS, Makaton, BSL or AAC training
- Level 2/3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning
- MAPA, Team-Teach or similar de-escalation training
