Communication and Working Relationship Skills Work in partnership with all health, social care professionals and other stakeholders maintaining effective communication that benefits the inpatient mothers & babies wellbeing. To be effective, clear and accurate when using all forms or communication throughout the organisation, using different styles and methods of communicating relevant to the complexity of the context and recipient. To organise and facilitate ward meetings, and participate in Trust wide meetings ensuring effective cascading of information to area of responsibility. To ensure effective methods and systems are in place to facilitate communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, between MBU based team members, MBU members and other areas of the Trust and wider Network. Analytical and Judgemental Skills To undertake complex decision making across a variety of areas including risk management, financial management, flow and capacity. To make sound judgements in a timely manner. To consider a range of options that may require a degree of analysis, comparison or interpretation. Planning and Organisational Skills To plan and organise the work of the team including staff training and development. To develop, monitor and maintain effective staff rostering systems, ensuring effective use of available resources to maintain safety and ensure that this is within budget. Implement and evaluate systems to monitor risk. Implement and evaluate systems to monitor cleanliness and infection control. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy Responsible for and lead on assessment planning implementation and evaluation of the evidence based care / treatment required, including health promotion for mothers. babies & infants on the ward. To take a key role in assisting with the development, delivery and evaluation of an evidenced base treatment programme. Responsible for the setting of quality standards including monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance, practice and policy. Responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 & 2007 are implemented, observed and adhered to. Responsible for the establishment and monitoring of evidence based therapeutic interventions with appropriate boundaries for service users. To take lead role in the developments and provision of social / therapeutic activities for mothers, babies & infants, working with other professionals to provide individualised programmes. To ensure that the role of the carer is understood, considered and acknowledged within the care of mothers, babies & infants. Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation To actively participate in audit activities in the ward as directed by the Perinatal Service Manager, service / care delivery requirements. To effectively manage projects at MBU level. To explore innovative ways of delivering and improving mothers, babies & infants care. To critically evaluate research findings. To maintain an enquiring approach to patient care ensuring current and evidence based practice is the basis of care / treatment provision. To lead and promote all clinical practice as being research and evidence based. Responsible for commenting on and the development where appropriate of Trust Clinical Policies within their sphere of responsibility. To be participate in responding to Clinical Governance issues using the incident reporting procedure. Actively participate in quality improvement projects, including identifying areas for improvement within the service Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources Manage the designated budget for the ward. To ensure the skill mix of the ward / department is within the budget. Ensure that the Line Manager is informed promptly of any possible overspend or areas of budgetary concern. Authorise payments to internal / external contracts within agreed levels of responsibility. Establish an efficient working environment making the most effective use of staff, supplies, equipment and services. Responsibility for Human Resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management There is a requirement to support learners on a regular basis which includes the achievement and updating of profession specific training to the required standard to fulfil this role To effectively line manage the staff in the MBU. Supervision and supporting all members of the multi-disciplinary team and nurturing a positive learning culture and team cohesion. To develop and empower junior staff within the team. Co-ordinate and manage recruitment and retention initiatives for the clinical area. Responsible for the setting of clear performance objectives in line with the agreed Trust appraisal process ensuring that each staff member understands their individual responsibilities and act accordingly within their sphere of responsibility. Investigate complaints, incidences and critical incidences in accordance with procedure. Ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of all Trust Policies i.e. Complaints, Disciplinary Procedures, Sickness Absence Policy. Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties The post holder will ensure that clinical / care records both written and electronic are accurate and are consistent with professional and organisational requirements. Responsible for the maintenance of data records necessary for performance management. Provide accurate statistical returns e.g. sickness, annual leave etc. To utilise and support the development of the integrated IT systems. Responsibility for Research and Development Freedom to Act To be accountable for your own actions. To hold a level of accountability for the development of systems relating to the safe and smooth running of the ward. To work within the confines of your Professional Practice at all times.
