We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
Applications are invited for this post, which will provide training in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, as well as providing opportunities for research into foot and ankle disorders.
Duties of the post will be adjusted to suit the particular experience and training requirements of the successful candidate.
In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit.
The foot and ankle fellowship at Freeman Hospital involves working with a team of 4 consultants. Principle responsibilities are for the care of elective foot and ankle patients in the outpatient and inpatient settings. It will be expected that the fellow will work alongside consultants (under their supervision) in clinic and in theatre, but with the opportunity to experience independent practice with indirect supervision, where appropriate. The fellow will do regular ward rounds and provide a point of contact when the responsible consultant is off-site. The Freeman deals with all aspects of foot and ankle surgery. Being a tertiary centre, we have a medically complex cohort of patients with neurological problems, haemophilia, rheumatoid (including JIA), diabetes, etc. We perform ankle arthroplasty in high volume, including revision ankle arthroplasty. Depending on service pressures there will be an on-call supplement payable for either FRH ward cover or RVI trauma on-call at registrar level.
Previous fellows have been in theatre for an average of six sessions per week, with the remaining sessions in clinic, ward, MDT and research.
Our staff oversee over 6,500 patient contacts every day, delivering high standards of healthcare from the following sites:
• Freeman Hospital
• Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI)
• Health Innovation Neighbourhood (on the former Newcastle General Hospital and Centre for Ageing and Vitality site)
• Newcastle Dental Hospital
• Newcastle Fertility Centre
• Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria
• Northern Genetics Service
• Cramlington Manor Walks
These include a range of flagship services which deliver cutting-edge care (supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic services in both radiology and pathology) and are a catalyst for innovation to support pioneering clinical practice in the NHS.
We also have offices at Regent Point in Gosforth and community sites.
Please see attached information on what Staff Benefits we have to offer at our Trust under ‘Documents to download’ or ‘Supporting documents’.
