A welcoming and inclusive primary school in South Manchester is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with autism. This full-time role is ideal for someone with a nurturing, patient nature and a genuine passion for supporting young children with additional needs.
About the Role
You will be working on a 1:1 basis with a pupil in Reception, providing tailored support to help them access the early years curriculum, develop communication and social interaction skills, and feel safe and settled in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, using a play-based, sensory approach to engage the child in learning.
- Use or be willing to learn communication strategies such as PECS, visual timetables, and Makaton to help build understanding and reduce anxiety.
- Support with personal care routines including toileting, where needed, with sensitivity and respect for the child's dignity.
- Assist with emotional regulation, transitions, and interaction with peers.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to follow individual support plans and contribute to ongoing progress reviews.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with young children with autism or additional needs (in school or nursery settings).
- Calm, compassionate and consistent, with a child-centred approach.
- Willing to undertake training in areas such as safeguarding, autism support and personal care.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with staff and parents.
- Comfortable with elements of personal care.

· Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification (desirable)
· MAPA, Team-Teach, or similar de-escalation training (desirable)
