Summary


Applications are invited for the post of Trust Doctor in Clinical Haematology at East Suffolk and North East NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 1 year fixed term role.

The appointee will be based at Ipswich Hospital and together with his/her colleagues will support the Clinical and Diagnostic Haematology service to East Suffolk.

You will join a multidisciplinary team including 6 Haematology Consultants, dedicated Haematology Nurse Specialists (lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma/MDS), a transfusion specialist practitioner, a team of Research Support Nurses and the haem-onc ward junior doctors (CMT and FY2 level).

The Trust Registrar will work alongside the current haematology SPR providing support for in-patients on Somersham ward, general haematology referrals and outliers and out patients. Additional junior doctor support is provided by ward based FY2s and CTs/IMTs in Oncology / Haematology. There is no on call currently planned

GENERAL

The post-holder will be expected to work with the Consultants and the current SPR to ensure the service is delivered in line with best practice. He/she will be based at the Ipswich Hospital.

This appointment will cover all aspects of a Trust Doctor’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research and education.



For the position advertised, 40 hours will be offered. Expected commitments will include:



· Multi-disciplinary ward meetings

· Follow-up and speciality clinics

· A weekly bone marrow biopsy list

· Ward and day unit consultations

· Attendance at site-specific MDTs

· There will be an opportunity to take place in:

Audit, research, CPD

· Chemotherapy clinics

General

There is an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre with a modern lecture theatre. The centre includes seminar rooms and a small but extensive library with very helpful staff on a site within Ipswich Hospital. The Library supplies books, journals, some interactive software and access to electronic bibliographic databases and journals.

The post-holder will be required to keep himself/herself fully up-to-date with their relevant area of practice and to be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of the Trust. Professional or study leave will be granted at the discretion of the Trust, in line with the prevailing Terms and Conditions of Service, to support appropriate study, postgraduate training activities, relevant CME courses and other appropriate personal development needs.

Post Specific

The department participates in the regular Hospital Grand Round presentations and Journal Clubs.



Weekly Junior Staff teaching sessions are undertaken within the department together with a monthly multidisciplinary teaching program.
