We are recruiting a Service Manager for Joe. Joe will be moving into his own home in Eastbourne.

Joe needs a Service Manager who is ready to lead and motivate his team to ensure his service is meeting his needs and wants.

Joe is moving from Newcastle, his Service Manager will need to initially travel to meet and get to know Joe in his current setting, so they are a familiar face when he moves home.

About Joe
Joe is a young man described by those people that love him and know him best as ‘funny and cheeky’. Joe has a wicked sense of humour, and his mischievous laugh gives him away when he is thinking something cheeky. Joe is affectionate and loving, and it is well worth taking the time to get to know him. When he’s built trust in you, you can support him to unlock opportunities, which can lifechanging!

Joe is non-verbal, though extremely communicative through his extensive use of Makaton. Joe is keen to support others to understand him, though can get frustrated when his wants and needs are not understood. Joe is autistic, has a learning disability and bipolar disorder, and experiences anxiety. Much of Joe’s anxiety stems from previous traumatic experiences, so a trauma informed approach is vital when supporting Joe and understanding his behaviours which can be perceived as challenging.

Joe is in a hospital in Newcastle and will be moving back to Sussex to be near his family. Joe has a great relationship with his family, and they are very important to him. They visit and communicate on a regular basis.

Joe enjoys listening to music, swimming, going for walks and drives and spending time with his family. Joe enjoys accessing the community, including visits to Starbucks and going out to eat in a quiet place. Joe would love to sit in to eat at McDonalds one day. Joe needs a consistent, supportive and confident team to support him to try new activities.

About you
You will:
• Presume competence - just because Joe does not communicate verbally, it does not mean he cannot understand you
• Take a trauma informed approach to support Joe, understanding that his behaviours may be a result of his past experiences
• Put Joe first and see him for the amazing person he is
• Be willing to work through ups and downs and stand by Joe
• Have lots of energy and a good sense of humour
• Use initiative and plan fun things to do with Joe’s guidance
• Be willing to learn about Joe through training provided by Seco Support and those that know Joe best in order to support Joe with a person-centred approach
• Lead and motivate Joe’s team to support him to reach his full potential
• Stand by him through tough times and be resilient
• Assess situations with patience and empathy
• Bring a lively, friendly, and caring personality
• Have a good sense of humour and be able to share jokes and pranks
• Be trustworthy, loyal, and upfront, with strong boundaries
• Follow routines and be flexible and creative when needed
• Communicate well and be reliable and supportive

Preferred previous experience
• Hold an NVQ in Health and Social Care or equivalent
• Have experience in leading supported living services
• Have experience supporting someone who is autistic
• Have experience in using Makaton and / or be willing to learn
• Have experience of supporting people who may express their feelings through behaviours that some people find challenging
• Have experience of managing medication

Joe will be supported over a 24-hour period which will consist of day shifts and waking nights.

About the role
We are looking for a Service Manager to:
• Visit Joe and his team at his home on a regular basis
• Manage Joe’s team’s training, annual leave and rotas
• Manage the finances within Joe’s service. This includes Seco Support finances as well as Joe’s
• Be responsible for ensuring that BrightHR completed for all team members and up to date
• Complete formal supervisions, probations and appraisals in line with Seco timescales
• Be responsible for updating risk assessments and support plans
• Ensure Joe’s service is compliant with CQC standards
• Lead reviews and ensure updates are made to Joe’s support and PBS plan
• Meet regularly with Joe’s family and professional team
• Interview and support new team members
• Be part of a local on call service
• Provide direct support to Joe should this be required

Full training will be provided through Seco Supports induction programme and online learning. Full referencing and a full enhanced check of the Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) will be required for this position.
