Description
The Head of Democratic Services plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective functioning of democratic processes within our organization. This leadership position demands a strategic thinker who can navigate the complexities of governance, compliance, and public engagement. As the Head of Democratic Services, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration of meetings, ensuring adherence to legal and procedural frameworks, and fostering transparent communication between elected officials, staff, and the community. You will lead a dedicated team focused on enhancing democratic practices, improving electoral processes, and supporting elected representatives in carrying out their duties effectively. Collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, from local government officials to community organizations, you will champion initiatives that promote civic participation and facilitate informed decision-making. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to streamline processes to enhance service delivery. Responsibilities
Oversee the organization and execution of all democratic processes and meetings including council sessions and committee meetings.
Ensure compliance with legal and procedural frameworks governing democratic services and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation.
Lead and manage the Democratic Services team, providing guidance, training, and support to staff members.
Facilitate effective communication between elected officials and constituents, ensuring transparency and accountability in decision-making.
Develop and implement strategies to enhance public engagement and participation in local governance.
Manage the preparation and distribution of agendas, minutes, and reports for council and committee meetings.
Coordinate and support the conduct of elections, ensuring adherence to protocols and facilitating a fair electoral process.
Requirements
Proven experience in a leadership role within democratic services or a related field.
Strong knowledge of local government legislation and procedures.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a keen ability to engage a diverse audience.
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams effectively, fostering a positive work environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Proficiency in using technology and software related to the management of democratic processes.
Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including elected officials, staff, and the public.
