This job provides the opportunity to be involved in medical educational teaching in an Ophthalmology setting. It also provides exposure and continued clinical experience in Ophthalmology acute and specialist setting including one theatre session per week.

It is an exceptional opportunity to build your CV, enhance your teaching experience and undertake a higher degree, via the Master's in Medical Education program. It also supports the teaching fellow to present at local, regional, national conferences and research innovative ideas in medical education.

The Department fully supports all Clinical Teaching Fellows in developing the course and UMED also has its own annual Undergraduate Medical Education Conference, where best and innovative practice can be shared.

Providing clinical duties in our ophthalmology department and teaching duties to our medical students.

You will be based at the Royal Derby Hospital and will be working alongside other Clinical Teaching Fellows in other specialties and will be able to work together on projects and share good practice.

The overall aim of this post is to help the Ophthalmology Department to develop and consolidate the undergraduate teaching programme and course material, and to explore alternative methods of teaching, to cope with ever increasing student numbers. The post will commence from August 2025 and is for 12 months.

Royal Derby Hospital provides clinical teaching for medical students from the University of Nottingham Medical School.

From 28 February 2022, the University of Nottingham Medical School implemented a new curriculum. Ophthalmology sits within the new Foundation to Practice Phase 1 (FFP1) course and it runs from February to October each year for an intensive two week attachment dedicated to Ophthalmology for 14 students.
